The Horned Frogs lost 2-0 to No. 18 UCF Knights Sunday afternoon.
UCF played a very attacking style from the early onset of the game, and dominated possession in the first half.
The Knights poked and prodded around the Horned Frogs’ back line for the first 30 minutes, but TCU’s Makenzie Koch and Meghan Murphy each made strong defensive plays to stop UCF attacks.
The Frogs caught a break in the 29th minute when a laser shot from UCF senior Ashley Spivey bounced off the woodwork.
Finally, in the 33rd minute, the Knights broke through the Horned Frogs’ defense.
Alex Piercy sent a corner to Jennifer Martin, who fired a volley that TCU goalie Vittoria Arnold could not keep out.
UCF doubled their lead just minutes later when Tatiana Coleman received a through ball from Carlin Huegli and slid it past Arnold to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.
The second half saw the Horned Frogs finally start testing the UCF defenders.
After only managing one shot in the first half, TCU sent eight shots towards UCF goalie Connie Organ, although she only needed to save three to keep the shutout.
A 61st minute altercation saw UCF’s Piercy and Spivey and TCU’s Jill Finnerty all receive yellow cards.
TCU fell to 1-3-0 on the season with the loss.
The Horned Frogs will have another two game homestand at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium this weekend, facing the LSU Tigers on Friday and taking on Abilene Christian on Sunday.
