Joseph Robert Dowd, 21, was found not guilty Monday of sexually assaulting another TCU student in Dec. 2012.
The jury returned its verdict Monday afternoon.
According to Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports, Dowd’s defense attorney, Frank Jackson, was “delighted” with the decision.
Dowd would have faced up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
The alleged assualt took place in his locked room in the Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) fraternity house. Executive Director of Phi Gamma Delta, Bill Martin, said Friday Dowd remains a member of the fraternity. Dowd was a student at TCU from fall 2011 to fall 2012, said Lisa Albert, TCU director of communications.
