Slideshow: Log Cabin Village hosts free day of old-time music, Texas history demos

About 1,500 people showed up Saturday for a free day of special events at Log Cabin Village.

Day in the District, held Sept. 27, gave visitors a glimpse into the past as volunteers held demonstrations with question-and-answer sessions about blacksmithing, making clothes and growing food.

The Buttermilk Junction Old-Time String Band played multiple times during the day performing traditional songs from 200 years ago.

Twice Upon a Time storytellers, sponsored by Imagination Celebration, also performed several times during the morning.

Deshuana Cesar came to the Village for the first time, she said, during the cultural day events.

Cesar said she enjoyed the “history behind each cabin, the volunteers and the demonstrations.”

The Village has been a part of Day in the District since the beginning, said Museum Director Kelli Pickard and Rena Lawrence, the museum’s educator and collections manager.
