The TCU Wesley Foundation is using volunteer work to partner with University United Methodist Church.
The Wesley, a Christian campus ministry associated with the United Methodist Church (UUMC), is in the early stages of solidifying the partnership, said Dillon Burns, director of children’s ministries at UUMC.
“We were connected to the TCU Wesley as a part of a new ministerial partnership; the leadership of each respective group is working to put in place,” Burns said. “It seemed silly for two Methodist organizations to exist so close to one another without asking how we could work together in a mutually beneficial way.”
Through this partnership, student members from the Wesley will be volunteering for various events with UUMC, which is on Berry Street. One of them, UUMC’s Halloween Carnival, was on Oct. 26 at Fairmount Park.
Megan Davidson, TCU Wesley campus minister, said the volunteers at the Halloween carnival ran carnival games, handed out candy, played with kids and did anything else to help out UUMC.
Burns said, in the case of the Halloween carnival, UUMC was “happy to open our event to college students eager to connect with the community surrounding TCU in a meaningful and influential way.”
Burns also said he anticipates that Wesley student members will help with the church’s Berry Sweet Baby Ministry, a boutique for pregnant teens and new teen moms in Fort Worth ISD.
In exchange for volunteer help, Burns said UUMC “hopes to support the Wesley by providing meals for their worships and through any other means that may rise.”
