The TCU men’s basketball team moved to 10-0 for the first time in school history Saturday night, as they knocked off McNeese State 68-50 at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center.

“It was a lot better than last time in terms of defensively. We had a lot of respect for McNeese State,” TCU head coach Trent Johnson said. “When you see them on tape, you see they are undersized, but they are explosive and quick.”

TCU held McNeese State to 30 percent field goal shooting and outscored the Cowboys bench 38-21.

Kenrich Williams led the offensive attack for the Frogs with the 13 points off the bench. Amric Fields also added eight points off the bench.

Williams came into action early in the first half when starting forward Chris Washburn got into foul trouble.

Johnson spoke highly of the production he’s gotten from his bench.

“Kenrich is a really good player, but I’m really encouraged by Devonta (Abron),” Johnson said. “When you come back from an achilles injury you usually labor some, but he’s had his usual bounce.”

TCU asserted their force down low from the opening tip, outscoring the Cowboys 34-22 in the paint and collecting 20 offensive rebounds. Karviar Shepherd led the Frogs with 12 rebounds.

McNeese State kept the game tight in the first half, drawing even with TCU on three occasions but never leading.

The Frogs held the Cowboys to only two points over the final 7:46 of the first half, turning an 18-all tie into a 29-20 halftime lead.

The Cowboys cut the TCU lead down to 43-35 with just over 11 minutes to go. But the Frogs responded with a 9-0 run, sparked by two Chauncey Collins three pointers, to expand their lead to 17.

TCU is back in action next Saturday against UT San Antonio. Tipoff from Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center is set for 7 p.m.
