After starting the season undefeated in nonconference play, TCU men’s basketball has lost its first two Big 12 matchups after a 58-53 defeat Wednesday night to the Kansas State Wildcats.

Turnover issues in the first half and poor free-throw shooting in the second half hurt the Horned Frogs, who kept the game close throughout but couldn’t surpass the Wildcats in the closing minutes.

Senior guard Trey Zeigler led all scorers with 19 points. He was the only player in double-figures in the game.

Zeigler was 7-for-14 from the field and the Frogs’ primary source of offensive firepower.

TCU’s leading scorer Kyan Anderson struggled to produce offensively, shooting just 1-for-5 from three-point range.

The Frogs were 14-for-24 from the charity stripe and have made 63 percent of their free throws on the season.

TCU held KSU to 38 percent shooting and forced 15 Wildcat turnovers, but the defense wasn’t enough to give the Frogs their first Big 12 victory since March 9, 2013.

TCU returns home to host Baylor Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
