Turns out the College Football Playoff committee did get TCU’s ranking right, just in the second-to-last week of the season.
The Frogs returned to the No. 3 spot they held in the penultimate CFP rankings in the final AP Top 25 released Tuesday.
The Frogs dropped from No. 3 to No. 6 on December 7, but an impressive 42-3 win over Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl vaulted the Frogs back up to the Top 3.
The No. 3 final ranking is TCU’s highest since finishing No. 2 in 2010-2011 after the Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin.
Unlike those final rankings, the Frogs did not receive any first-place votes this time around.
National champion Ohio State garnered all 59 first-place votes, and runner-up Oregon finished second in the end-of-season polls.
TCU placed No. 3 in the final USA Today Coaches’ Poll.
The Frogs are already receiving media attention for the 2015 pre-season rankings, with FoxSports and CBSSports both predicting that TCU receives the No. 2 slot.
TCU returns 15 starters, including all but left tackle Tayo Fabuluje on the offensive side of the ball, and AP Coach of the Year Gary Patterson is expected to have his 4-2-5 defense in shape.
