TCU women’s basketball fell to 4-4 in Big 12 play Tuesday night following a 89-67 loss to No. 3 Baylor.

Early turnovers by the Lady Bears kept TCU alive, but it was foul trouble that gave Baylor a first half advantage. Sophomore Jada Butts came off the bench to give TCU seven quick points, but Baylor’s leading scorer Nina Davis pushed the Lady Bears to a late first half push.

Head coach Reagan Pebley said after the game TCU wasn’t able to create a run because they were in early foul trouble.

“We had two of our starters on the bench for quite a bit of time, and we played some players with two fouls,” Pebley said. “We played a little too worried about picking up that third foul.”

The Lady Bears led by as many as 13 in the first half, and entered halftime with a 46-34 lead.

TCU center Klara Bradshaw entered the second half off the bench to put up 10 points, but the half strictly belonged to Baylor.

Pebley said the Lady Bears did a great job of winning the paint, and the Frogs lack of offensive rebounds put them in crisis mode.

Baylor dominated the paint, scoring 60 points to TCU’s 24.

Three Baylor players finished in double digits while TCU leading scorer Veja Hamilton was held below her season average. Hamilton earned high praise from Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey after the game.

“There’s about ten players in the country who can shoot mid-range jumpers, and she can shoot a mid-range jumper about as good as I’ve seen,” Mulkey said.

With the loss, the Frogs are 12-7 on the season. They’ll look to improve their record Sunday as they host No. 8 Texas.
