Fort Worth foodies will have a new place to shop this summer.

The Fresh Market includes wide open space, rustic decor and European styling. A new 26,000-square-foot store will be the latest addition to the WestBend project, located on University Drive and River Run near the Trinity River.

The North Carolina grocery chain has been expanding into Texas throughout the past few years.

Although initially scheduled to open early 2015, the store is now expected to open this summer, said Drewry Sackett, public relations and community relations manager for The Fresh Market.

The Fort Worth store will be the company's seventh in Texas. The first Tarrant County store opened late last year in Southlake.

The Southlake store has a style different from other grocery stores, such as Kroger and Tom Thumb. The store features quality meats and seafood, organic produce and foods from around the world.

"Our goal is to always inspire people to make everyday eating extraordinary," Sackett said. "Every item in our store has been carefully selected, and every employee is here to not just help customers find something, but help them create something."

Trademark Property is developing the WestBend project, which includes 278,000 square feet of retail, dining and office space. The new grocery store will be on the southeast corner of the development behind Silver Fox Steakhouse and along the Trinity River.

“WestBend is the perfect location given its close proximity to the active Trinity Trail lifestyle, within a mile from Fort Worth’s Cultural District, the Fort Worth Zoo, Colonial Country Club and Texas Christian University,” said Kymberley Scalia, director of corporate marketing for Trademark Property Co.

The Fresh Market has 144 stores in 26 states around the country.
