After a second round that left the TCU Men’s Golf team in ninth place, the Horned Frogs climbed their way up to a fifth place finish at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii finishing ahead of five Top-25 teams.
Spanning three days from Feb. 5 to 7, the team ended up finishing only six strokes back of tournament champion, No. 25 Arizona State.
The top finisher for the Horned Frogs was senior Julien Brun, who shot an 8-under 64 on his final round placing No. 11 overall individually.
After teeing off with a bogey, Brun made no more errors over the next 17 holes, rolling in seven birdies and an eagle on the 501-yard par-5 18th hole.
Sophomore Chelso Barrett shot six birdies on his way to his second-lowest round of his career, shooting a 67 in his final round and finishing tied for No. 18.
Sophomore Giulio Castagnara had a final round of a 5-under 67 and finished tied for No. 50.
Junior Paul Barjon eagled the 513-yard par-5 fourth hole for the second time in the tournament and carded a 1-under 71 earning him a tie for the No. 19 individual slot.
Senior Andrew Presley finished the tournament on a strong note. After carding back-to-back scores of 74 throughout the first two rounds, Presley shot a 2-under 70 and tied for No. 68 to make a positive impact for the fifth place Horned Frogs.
TCU finished in the top five for the third time this season and will begin preparation for the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Feb. 20 in Palm Desert, CA.
