One prospective buyer wanted to turn it into a dance studio. Another, an office complex. Someone even asked about the renovation process to turn it back into a movie theater.

But for now, the Berry Theater at 3033 Hemphill Street remains abandoned, and with signifiant structural damage, its future looks grim.

However, the old Fort Worth landmark features an iconic sign, and is situated in the Hemphill/Berry village, an area targeted for revitalization and redevelopment by the city of Fort Worth.

Perhaps the Berry Theater could return for a sequel, as Fort Worth officials said they are hoping to spark private investment in the area through streetscape improvements.

But community member JoAnn Morgan, from the Travis Avenue Baptist Church across the street, said she just hopes the Berry Theater finds a purpose.

Morgan said she grew up going to the movies each weekend at the Berry Theater, and hopes it can once again serve the local community.
