    Campus closed Monday due to winter weather

    Update Feb. 23, 4:51 p.m.

    Union Grounds is now open until 9 p.m., according to an email from Russel. 

    Market Square will still close at 7 p.m., and the BLUU and the Multipurpose Building will still close at 2 a.m.

    If TCU is worried about driving conditions for faculty, staff and students tomorrow, the outlook isn’t too good.

    The NWS in Fort Worth released a statement this afternoon with an update on weather and driving conditions.

    “Temperatures will remain below freezing throughout nearly all of North and Central Texas,” according to the statement. “Although there has been some improvement in road conditions this afternoon… slush and residual moisture on roadways will begin refreezing this evening.”

    Any roads or sidewalks with slush on them will refreeze before tomorrow morning, according to the report. Precipitation that falls overnight, frozen or not, is also expected to freeze on the ground.

    “The resulting glaze would impact all road surfaces… only worsening driving conditions,” the report stated.

    The NWS also predicted snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The snow could accumulate between one and three inches; however, snowfall should end by noon on Wednesday, according to the report. 

    Update Feb. 23, 2:43 p.m.

    Holly Ellman, TCU’s interim director of strategic communications management, wrote in an email to TCU 360 that there is no information yet about a possible closure Tuesday.

    If TCU officials close the campus on Tuesday, the food service plan would remain the same as Monday’s, Russel told TCU 360 in an email. 

    “If we close, we’ll delay breakfast an hour and then determine the schedule based on how many Food Service staff can make it in,” Russel wrote in the email. “There is plenty of food in the BLUU with frozen reserves stored in the Stadium.”

    Students can venture to the BLUU Auditorium to watch “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. “to help with cabin fever,” Russel said.

    Update Feb. 23, 12:20 p.m.

    Students should not expect any on-campus dining options except Market Square to be open Monday because of staffing issues, according to another email to students and staff.

    “It is very unlikely that any food venue except Market Square will open today,” Mike Russel, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs, wrote in the email.

    Market Square will close from 2-5 p.m., according to the email. It will reopen from 5-7 p.m. for dinner. 

    Update Feb. 23, 12:15 p.m.

    The National Weather Service’s forecast predicts a low of 22 degrees tonight. There is also a chance of freezing rain and sleet, but “little or no sleet accumulation [is] expected,” according to the forecast. 

    Tuesday’s high temperature is expected to be around 36 degrees. Temperatures may not get above freezing until Tuesday afternoon. 

    Fort Worth police have been busy. 

    Update Feb. 22, 10:27 p.m. 

    The University Recreation Center will open at 10 a.m. on Monday. 

    Update Feb. 22, 9:16 p.m.

    On-campus dining options will open on a rolling basis on Monday based on when staff members get to work, according to an email from Mike Russel, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs. 

    The BLUU and the Multipurpose Building will be on regular schedule (7 a.m. to 2 a.m.), but aside from Market Square, the dining options won’t have a set opening time. Market Square will open one hour later than normal at 8 a.m. Russel said Market Square’s hours throughout the day might change to make accomodations for staff and students.

    “The remaining retail food service venues will open as soon as possible,” Russel wrote in the email.

    According to Russel’s email, once enough staff members report to work, the on-campus restaurants will open in this order:

    • The Press (Multipurpose building)
    • Union Grounds (BLUU)
    • O’Brien’s (Multipurpose Building)
    • Chick-Fil-A (BLUU)
    • Caliente (Multipurpose Building)
    • Magnolias (Multipurpose Building)

    Winter came again.

    TCU will be closed on Monday due to freezing temperatures and icy conditions, according to a TCU alert sent to students and staff.

    With temperatures below freezing before 7 p.m., the freezing rain and sleet are set to stick around through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

    The NWS issued a winter storm warning Sunday afternoon for Fort Worth through 6 p.m. on Monday. According to the report, “temperatures will remain in the 20s throughout the day Monday.”

    Lawrence Drake, a worker at the Brown-Lupton University Union, confirmed Market Square would be open on Monday. However, he said he didn’t know what the menu would look like.

    “The workers won’t know until we get here tomorrow,” Drake said.
