The men’s golf team posted a record breaking round during the first day of The Goodwin tournament at Stanford Golf Course on Thursday.
All five Horned Frogs scored sub-70 rounds and finished the day with the lowest overall team score: A 16-under round of 264.
The team totaled 25 birdies against eight bogeys giving them an eight-stroke lead over second place University of Alabama at Birmingham and a 12-stroke advantage over the host, Stanford, sitting in fifth.
Seniors Julien Brun, Andrew Presley and junior Paul Baron, who won the tournament in 2013, tied for the eighth-lowest round at TCU since 1994 after scoring 5-under rounds of 65.
The score of 65 would be the sixth for Brun and a new career-low for Barjon. The three are currently tied for second overall.
Sophomore Chelso Barrett recorded his 13th round of par or better with a 1-under 69. Sophomore Giulio Castagnara matched the third-lowest round of his career at 69.
The team will continue play with the second round Friday. Check with TCU 360 for updates.
