A TCU student died this afternoon, according to Tarrant County medical examiner records.
Senior Read Hortenstine, 23, died at Baylor All Saints Hospital at 3:45 p.m., according to the records.
Kathy Cavins-Tull, vice chancellor for student affairs, acknowledged Hortenstine’s death in an email to TCU on Friday.
“We are saddened by the loss of a valued member of our community and our thoughts and prayers are with Read’s family and friends at this time,” Cavins-Tull wrote.
According to a Fort Worth Police report, officers received a call on Thursday that Hortenstine was unresponsive and not breathing. Officers were then dispatched to his home on Lambert Avenue around 1 p.m., and he was transferred to the hospital by MedStar.
Hortenstine was a general studies major, according to the TCU email database. He was also a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
“We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Read,” said Stafford Sadler, president of SAE. “If there’s anything this semester has taught us, it is to appreciate our friends and family.”
