TCU baseball announced plans Friday to further renovate the Charles and Marie Lupton Baseball Stadium.
$7.5 million dollars will be used to add a new locker room, classroom, team lounge, sports medicine center, equipment room and coaches’ office, according to a press release.
New renovations follow a string of projects at Lupton stadium aimed to improve both fan and student-athlete experiences.
“For 11 seasons, we have basically done something every year to improve the ballpark, mainly for our fans. It’s long overdue to do some amazing things for our players,” head coach Jim Schlossnagle said.
A $2.5 million player development center was built just last year. The center features batting cages with a turf surface in front, totaling 20,000 square feet.
Like the development center, the new facility will be built along the left-field line.
“We are most appreciative of our donors for making it possible for us to enhance the student-athlete experience for those in our baseball program,” TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte said in the release. “Having first-class facilities with all the modern amenities will also enhance our recruiting efforts.”
Schlossnagle also tweeted that fans can expect “terraced berm seating in (the) next couple years.” 21,876 people packed Lupton Stadium when TCU hosted Texas A&M for the Fort Worth Super Regional. The single-game attendance record of 7,383 was established that same weekend.
All work is set to be completed in time for the 2016 season, according to the release.
TCU will enter the 2016 season having reached the College World Series three times in six years. The program won their first Big 12 Championship in 2015.
