Women’s soccer struggles against Illinois

TCU soccer fell short against Illinois Friday night, losing the contest 5-2 and dropping their third straight game to open the 2015 campaign.

After a relatively close contest in which the score was tied 2-2 at halftime, Illinois scored three goals in a span of just under five minutes, which provided the final scoreline.

Sophomore Emma Heckendorn and junior Michelle Prokof both tallied goals for TCU in the loss.

The defeat came despite TCU out-shooting Illinois 17-13.

Head coach Eric Bell said that missed chances ultimately cost them on Friday night.

“There were chances that we created and then there were chances that we have to be more clinical about and finish,” Bell said.

Bell said he expects the team to learn and grow from its current slump.

“The efforts for some parts was good, but for others not good enough,” Bell said. “We are learning some hard lessons and it’s testing us for sure, but we will be better for it.”

The team will travel to Illinois state for their next contest before returning to Fort Worth to face Maryland in its home opener on Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
