Football fans wanting to grab a bite to eat before kickoff can choose one of the many options within walking distance of Amon G. Carter Stadium.
On University Drive fans could stop by Dutch’s, Buffalo Bros, Pizza Snob, or Salsa Limón.
Dutch’s, named after former TCU football head coach Dutch Meyer, offers an array of burgers, sandwiches, chicken strips and milkshakes. Andrew Ward, expediter and cashier at Dutch’s, said that while the restaurant is packed with TCU fans on game day, it’s never full.
“It doesn’t ever feel too crowded,” Ward said. “It’s just a great atmosphere because the majority of the people you’re going to find in here are also going to be rooting from the same team.”
A similar atmosphere can be found at Buffalo Bros which serves pizza, wings, and subs. Myranda Jackson, a waitress at Buffalo Bros, said that the restaurant is usually standing room only on game days and that they even set up the pool table as a regular table to fit more people.
“It’s just a whole bunch of screaming and cheering,” Jackson said. “Pretty much everyone comes here. It’s awesome.”
Fans looking for a little calmer atmosphere can grab some food from the build-your-own pizza restaurant Pizza Snob. Monica Murphy, general manager for Pizza Snob, said on game days the restraint is fun and upbeat.
“We have the best pizza, the best customer service, and it’s very quick,” Murphy said.
Pizza Snob is also popular among visiting teams’ fans said Murphy.
“In conference games we get a lot of the opposing fans in here,” Murphy said. “Of course I always have my TCU in here.”
Fans looking for something outside the typical game day food can try Salsa Limón which serves tacos, burritos and quesadillas. Salsa Limón owner, Frank Sigala, said that the restaurant grew because of TCU and that it is a great place to enjoy game days.
“We’re a modern institution with the best tacos in the world,” Sigala said. “It couldn’t fit any better.”
Horned Frog fans can also join one of the many tailgates around the stadium. TCU alumna Susanne Stutheit, who has been tailgating for over 10 years, said she enjoys the ease that comes with tailgating.
“You’re not having to get your food and get to the game and get parked,” Stutheit said. “It puts us closer to the game.”
However, no matter where fans eat before the game, everyone can enjoy the atmosphere around the stadium.
“It’s a lot more of a celebration,” Stutheit said. “I love being close to that.”
