The TCU soccer team recorded another shutout Sunday afternoon, defeating the University of Texas at San Antonio 4-0 at Garvey Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in Fort Worth.
The Frogs started scoring 40 minutes in when Audrey Brook found the back of the net for her first goal as a Horned Frog. TCU went on to score three more goals in the second half en route to the victory.
A goal by Michelle Prokof in the second half moved her into 7th on TCU’s all-time goal list with 19 career goals. Allison Ganter and Eryn Spencer also tallied goals for the Frogs.
TCU goalies Shannon Coffer and Courtney Hofer combined for three saves in the game to give the Frogs the shut-out win. It was the team’s sixth win in seven matches.
The game was also notable as TCU players Meghan Murphy and Courtney Forte made their first career starts.
TCU Head Coach Eric Bell said the team is showing more depth as the season moves along.
“We’ve learned that we can play a lot of players and not see a drop-off in our play,” Bell said. “We are pretty deep and that has galvanized our group. We continue to get better.”
Bell added that though the team has struggled in the first halves of their matches, they continue to respond in the second half.
“The style of soccer we are playing we go into the half a little frustrated but we come out and make adjustments,” Bell said. “The girls are able to make the adjustments they need to. We are still naïve in some areas that we need to clean up going into conference play, but I’m pleased with where we are at.”
The Frogs open up conference play when they host the Iowa State Cyclones Friday night. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
