A local Girl Scouts troop will continue their tradition of participating in this year’s TCU homecoming parade.
The Girl Scouts from Ridglea Elementary School began walking in the parade in 2013 as part of their community badge and have since made it a priority to participate every year, according to Mary Wright, leader of Troop 2549.

“The girls had so much fun,” Wright said. “Apparently now it is a tradition that we cannot stop.”
Wright added that “the girls are very excited to support TCU and participate again this year.”
Wright said this year the Girl Scouts troop plans to decorate their float with purple and white tissue paper flowers to display TCU school spirit.
The Girl Scouts who have participated in the parade in previous years said they had fun getting involved with TCU homecoming and are excited to be able to continue the tradition this year.
“I love how everyone throws out candy.” said Libby Helmer, a fourth-grade student at Ridglea Hills Elementary School. “I like working with my friends, building the float and riding around and waving to people.”
Caroline Wright, a classmate of Helmer, said her favorite part about the parade is being able to decorate the float with all her friends.
Parents of the Girl Scouts said they enjoy having their daughters participate because it helps the girls understand the importance of volunteering.
“The parade exposes young girls to a healthy view of collegiate life while also instilling a sense of volunteerism and community,” said Bret Helmer, Libby Helmer’s father.
The homecoming parade is scheduled for Friday, October 2 and will begin at 6 p.m.
