Police want safety and security at Homecoming events

TCU police expect the crowd for this weekend’s game to be very large, which means more tailgating for students and fans.

The TCU police department said it is expecting a large attendance at homecoming activities due to the game against the University of Texas.

Police are anticipating “more tailgates with a lot of people” since the upcoming game is against UT, Lt. Ramiro Abad wrote in an email.

Abad said that police want the best security for the parade Friday and game Saturday.

In the past, TCU police has anticipated fewer people to attend 11 a.m. homecoming games, but they expect a big crowd and high security at the UT game, Abad wrote.

“Some of the biggest issues in the past have been heat-related issues and overindulgence of alcohol,” Abad wrote. “The 11 a.m. game time is not an issue. It’s who we play at that time who would have a larger draw of people than would Iowa State.”

The Fort Worth Police Department, Fort Worth Fire Department, MedStar Mobile Healthcare and the TCU police will be present during the homecoming parade.

“Fort Worth emergency officers will be placed along the route and the homecoming crew has students also following the floats in case of an emergency,” Abad wrote.

TCU’S parade float handbook states that smoking and alcohol is not allowed in the staging area or near the floats.

The use or consumption of drugs or alcohol will result in immediate disqualification, according to the policy.

“For security, the parade participants have rules and procedures that they sign off on when they register to participate as required by the homecoming committee,” Abad added.

The homecoming parade will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, and the game will be at 11 a.m Saturday.
