Boykin and Doctson break records in first half as TCU tramples Texas 37-0

Trevone Boykin and Josh Doctson are new record holders after the first half in TCU’s homecoming game against the University of Texas in Amon G. Carter Stadium on Saturday.

Boykin passed Andy Dalton’s previous touchdown pass record of 71 with KaVontae Turpin’s second touchdown.

Doctson set a new career touchdown catches record with his second touchdown in the first quarter on a trick play when running back Shaun Nixon threw a 29-yard pass to the wide receiver. Josh Boyce previously held the record.

Defensive end Mike Tuaua started after missing the past three games due to a suspension. He finished the first half with two tackles.

True freshman Montrel Wilson led TCU’s defense with 11 tackles and one sack.

TCU ended the first quarter 30-0. The Frogs had the ball for 32 seconds longer than the Horns and had 200 more yards of offense.

Special teams woes plagued the Longhorns in the first half, with a high snap on a punt leading to a safety and two field goal attempts flying wide.

Turpin scored his third touchdown with a 50-yard pass from Boykin for the Frogs’ only score of the second quarter.

TCU beat Texas by 38 last season (48-10) and is up 37-0 Saturday at the half. TCU hasn’t beaten Texas by double digits in back-to-back games since 1955-56.
