Members of the TCU and Fort Worth police departments spent time on Tuesday in the campus’ student union to foster connections with the TCU community.
The evening was a part of National Night Out, an annual event that unites local officers and citizens in an effort to spread awareness about crime prevention. The event is in its 32nd year.
Tarrant County Assistant District Attorney, Jessica Theriot,  credited the event’s national success to its ability to connect community members with their law enforcement on a personal level.
“It helps break the barrier. It’s not just a cop on the street anymore, it’s someone that I’ve met and I’ve talked to,” she said.
To increase awareness about the annual event, several officers handed out frisbees, informative pamphlets, and wristbands to passing students in the Brown-Lupton University Union.
Pamela Christian, crime prevention officer for the TCU Police Department, encouraged students to go online to receive crime prevention tips if they were unable to meet with the police officers Tuesday evening.
