TCU fans are pledging their support for the Iowa State kid captain who’s captured the nation’s attention since being featured in a photo with TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin.
A fundraising page to offset Abby Faber’s medical expenses began accepting donations Thursday morning, raising more than $7,500.
According to the crowd-funding page donations will help pay for Abby’s physical and vision therapy, as well as an orthopedic surgery on both of her legs that will be needed in the coming years.
Abby Faber was kid captain for the TCU-ISU football game last Saturday. Abby, who was in a wheelchair, took the field with the players for the coin toss before kickoff. While she was there, Boykin stopped to talk with her.
Galen Steeg wrote on Abby’s donation page, “the greatest thing about the ISU-TCU football game was not the score but that we in the Frog Family and the Nation got an introduction into a special young lady named Abby Faber.”
The donation page has more than 135 supporters, many of whom called Abby an “inspiration” and praised her courage and strength.
A donor identified as Lewis Boykin wrote, “Abby, The Frog Family and the Boykin family wish you the best and prayers will never cease to go up in your behalf, you are greatly loved. Lewis & Carly Boykin.”
Kim Wehde, the creator of the donation page, wrote in an email that “this has been so amazing to see. Genuine acts of kindness going to help genuinely good people. Make my heart happy!”
The donation page began with a goal of $5,000, but as donations surpassed that mark the goal was increased to $10,000. The website has been shared more than 1,000 times
