The Horned Frogs defeated West Virginia 40-10 Thursday night in front of a crowd of 45,947 strong.

The Frogs got off to a quick start, as quarterback Trevone Boykin found wide receiver Josh Doctson for a 17-yard touchdown pass on their opening drive to jump out to a 7-0 lead. It was Doctson’s 13th touchdown catch of the year.

The Frogs struck again later in the first quarter when Boykin took the ball himself, front flipping into the end zone to give the Frogs a 14-0 lead. Jaden Oberkrom executed a 20-yard field goal attempt on the Frogs’ following drive to extend the lead to 17-0 with less than two minutes to play in the first quarter.

It was the Mountaineers who struck first in the second quarter when quarterback Skyler Howard found wide receiever Shelton Gibson in the end zone for a diving touchdown catch, making it a 17-7 game with 11:19 to play in the quarter. West Virginia then made a 51-yard field goal later in the quarter to cut the lead to 17-10.

The Frogs extended their lead yet again, this time to 10 points when Oberkrom executed a 23-yard field goal with 1:05 to play in the half, making it 20-10 in favor of the Frogs

After a quick West Virginia three and out, Oberkrom nailed his third field goal of the night, this time from 57 yards out as time expired in the half. The Frogs would take a 23-10 lead going into halftime.

On the opening drive of the second half, Boykin found tailback Kyle Hicks for a 7-yard touchdown pass, extending the Frogs’ lead to 30-10

The Frogs struck once again on their next drive, this time with Boykin finding Doctson again in the end zone for his 14th touchdown catch of the season. The 9-yard reception extended the Frogs’ lead to 37-10.

Oberkrom added to his impressive night in the first minute of the fourth quarter, nailing a 43-yard field goal to extend the lead to 40-10.

TCU’s offense recorded a total of 616 yards in the win.

The Frogs’s defense showed up big in the win too, allowing points only in the second quarter. It was a pleasant change after several lackluster performances from the unit in previous games.

TCU’s unit had its best first half performance, as far as points allowed, since shutting out Texas in the first half of that game on October 3.

Freshman middle linebacker Travin Howard recorded his first career interception with 9:31 to go in the fourth quarter, ending a scoring chance of the Mountaineers in the red zone.

The Frogs return to action when they face Oklahoma State next Saturday in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
