TCU will welcome an award-winning author for a lecture on his latest book over religious phenomenon, Billy Graham.

Dr. Grant Wacker is the Gilbert T. Rowe Professor Emeritus of Christian History at Duke Divinity School. He’s also a noted scholar and award-winning author, including the American Academy of Religion’s Award for Excellence in the Study of Religion.

His lecture will cover his latest biography, “America’s Pastor: Billy Graham and the Shaping of a Nation.”

Billy Graham rose to popularity in the 1940s as a Southern Baptist evangelist. Wacker’s book examines Graham’s life and his impact on society.

Graham held many positions of power during his career including spiritual adviser to presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon.

Graham had a radio show and the longest running religious show on television. His annual show, “The Billy Graham Crusades,” ran yearly from 1947 to 2005. Graham also used mailings, magazines and movies to reach as many people as possible.

Graham has written over 30 books, with most of them becoming bestsellers.

Wacker currently serves on the advisory board of the Christian Century and was the former president of the American Society of Church History.

The lecture will be held in Beasley Hall, Room 205 on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 7.p.m.. There will be a reception afterwards.
