Students will have the chance to enjoy another free concert as the Student Government Association announced Tuesday via social media and a House meeting that they will be sponsoring a spring concert.
The concert is set to be in January 2016. SGA will not release whom the performer is until Dec. 2 because of a stipulation in the performer’s contract, Vice President of External Affairs Katie Phillips said. The announcement will be sent out to students via mass email.
“We hope that students will be excited for this unifying experience and incredible artist(s),” Phillips said. “Given our ability to fund a spring concert this year, we decided this would be an incredible way to give back to the students.”
The artist was chosen by the SGA cabinet members, which include the president, vice presidents and treasurer.
“Collectively, we decide on an artist based on their availability, price and fit for TCU,” Phillips said.
Previous performers at TCU have included Hunter Hayes and Jason Derulo.
This will be the first year SGA sponsors a spring concert, although the idea has been years in the making, Phillips said.
“In 2012 and 2013, a generous alumni donated money to fund the fall concerts, which alleviated SGA’s financial responsibility during those years,” Phillips said. “Therefore, conserving resources during 2012 and 2013 allowed us to fund an additional concert in 2016.”
