TCU students finish intramural season, enjoy indoor soccer

The High School Zeroes won the co-ed indoor soccer championship.

The fall semester intramural season came to a close last Tuesday night as Beta Theta Pi, Sigma Kappa and The High School Zeroes all won first place in their indoor soccer divisions.

Sophomore Adam Wagner and his Beta Theta Pi teammates took home first place in the men’s division after a 3-1 victory over Phi Kappa Phi.

“Oh, it was a blast,” Wagner said. “I’m really happy to win. It was a good team effort all around,”

The games included in-game music organized by intramural supervisor Mason Tucker who also included his own commentary throughout the game.

“I think it was actually the first time we’ve had an in-game commentary for some of the stuff,” Tucker said. “I think the participants get really excited when you get to yell ‘goal’ after they score so it gets everybody energized and it was overall a really good time.”

Tucker said the music coupled with the in-game commentary helped get the spectators involved in the game. Wagner said he agreed.

“Yeah, the crowd definitely made it fun. Even though they were a little too rowdy sometimes,” Wagner said.

In the co-recreational division, the High School Zeroes won their championship matchup with the High School Heroes by a score of 5-3.

Sophomore Alex Smith, a member of the High School Zeroes, said intramurals have helped him relive his high school athletic experience.

“It’s just so much fun. I think one of my favorite things at TCU is playing indoors. And just like in the co-ed, the men’s league whatever,” he said.

Wagner and Smith both said they enjoyed indoor soccer but they still prefer the outdoor experience.

The indoor game presents new challenges, they said.

“Especially with the walls as rebounds it takes a different mentality. Especially defensive wise,” Wagner said.

Smith said he enjoys playing with more space, but he loved having the opportunity to win an intramural championship alongside his friends.

“I’m more of an outdoor guy because I’m just faster there and that helps but I think both are really fun,” Smith said.

Smith will have the opportunity to play the outdoor game when the spring semester begins as outdoor soccer, basketball, sand volleyball and golf will be the four major team sports offered.
