It’s only the first week of February, but the TCU men’s tennis team has already enjoyed plenty of success.

Jerry Lopez’s clutch victory in the final singles match against Oklahoma State on Jan. 24 clinched a team berth to the ITA Indoor National Championships in February. It’s the second straight year that the Frogs will appear in the tournament.

Head coach David Roditi, in his sixth year at TCU, has perhaps his deepest squad ever at his disposal. Sophomores Guillermo Nuñez and Cameron Norrie have been ranked as high as No. 9 and No. 10 in the International Tennis Federation Junior World Rankings, respectively, while talented freshmen Eduardo Nava and Alex Rybakov have quickly made an impact on the program.

All this talent has landed the Frogs at No. 2 in the national rankings, trailing only the University of Virginia.

What’s truly remarkable about this Horned Frog team is that there are no seniors playing in the purple and white this year. The three juniors — Lopez, Hudson Blake, and Trey Daniel — are the oldest members on the squad.

Four freshmen and three sophomores have largely carried the load for TCU. This youth infusion has given the Frogs new energy this season and bodes well for future campaigns.

The Frogs have a loaded schedule ahead of them. They’ll play nearly every weekend from now until the Big 12 Championships in April.

Match-ups against Big 12 teams start on April 8, when the Frogs take on Oklahoma. Before that, they’ll take on Ivy League schools Columbia and Dartmouth, as well as Texas A&M and SMU.

The Frogs hit the courts next against Stanford and California in Austin, Texas, on Feb. 6 and 7 before traveling to Charlottesville, Va. for the ITA Indoor Championships the following weekend.
