With the 38th annual Cowtown Marathon approaching, the TCU Army ROTC program is looking to do more than just participate.

CDT 2nd Lt. Joseph Medina said cadets will be running various events as well as helping runners at the water table.

“It’s the nature of the ROTC program to give back to the community in whatever way we can,” Medina said. “A big event like the Cowtown marathon is a great opportunity to do so.”

Medina also said completing the marathon is a great fitness goal to pursue.

TCU Cadet Alex Ghozeil will be running the half marathon. He said ROTC volunteering is just “a reflection of this idea that we, as military, serve our communities as well as our nation.”

“The Cowtown generally needs a hefty sum of volunteers in order to run smoothly,” Ghozeil said. “So, TCU ROTC is honored to help out every year.”

The Cowtown marathon helps different charities each year, including the Cowtown C.A.L.F., or “Children’s Activities for Life & Fitness.”

C.A.L.F.’s mission is to educate and promote a healthy lifestyle for children.

According to the Cowtown website, the 2015 Cowtown race weekend allowed for the C.A.L.F. program to provide over 5,000 financial grants to youths in need.

The Cowtown Marathon is Feb. 27 and will feature a children’s 5k, adult 5k and the 10k. The marathon will be followed by the half, full and ultra marathon on Feb. 28.

All races start and finish at the Will Rogers Memorial Center on Gendy Street.
