The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lions came into Fort Worth to play TCU on Wednesday in a game that was rescheduled from Tuesday due to rain.
The Horned Frogs overcame a bizarre top half of the first inning, in which they gave up three runs, to win 17-3.
The game started with back-to-back bunt singles for APB as they were able to capitalize on three hits, a hit batter, and a throwing error to take a 3-0 lead. TCU pitcher Devon Roedahl was able to escape the inning with just 12 pitches thrown, despite the three runs given up.
The Horned Frogs quickly answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first thanks to a triple from 2nd basemen Cam Warner and an RBI double from infielder Josh Watson. TCU proceeded to gain the lead back in the bottom of the 2nd when two runners scored on a throwing error to make it 4-3 in favor of the Frogs.
The game remained 4-3 between the 3rd and 5th innings due in large part to great pitching from both starting pitchers, who settled down nicely after the first inning. Roedahl went three innings while giving up two earned and striking out two. The TCU bullpen provided great relief, holding the Lions scoreless for the remainder of the game.
The Horned Frogs pulled away from any scare of an upset byErupting for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth. Watson had a two-RBI triple in the inning and Elliott Barzilli touched them all with a three-run home run, which made it 12-3. The Frogs cruised from that point, adding five more runs in the eighth inning leading to a solid victory.
TCU improved to a record of 3-1 on the season after they took the weekend series versus LMU two games to one. The Horned Frogs are now on a three-game win streak as they look to carry their success into this weekend’s tournament in Houston.
TCU will take on Louisiana Lafayette on Friday, Rice on Saturday, and Houston on Sunday.
