Transfer students are being asked to take on leadership positions to help other transfer students transition into TCU.

Students Development Services has created two leadership opportunities for current transfer students. Transfer guides and transfer center volunteers will help fellow transfer students acclimate to campus.

“TCU has 1,300 transfer students,”  said Rachael Capua, the assistant director of sophomore & junior year experience. “It is very important to have a dynamic, diverse and helpful team of undergraduates who have already transferred to TCU to share their experiences and their insight with incoming students.”

Transfer student mentor Amanda Dorsey said that she helps students to navigate through TCU culture.

“Orientation can be hard,” Dorsey said. “We help them to find their fit.”

All students, including veterans and nontraditional students, are encouraged to join clubs and organizations to get involved.

“Transfer student leadership efforts will be beneficial if the information is shared more with veterans, allowing them to make an educated decision on whether or not to get connected,” said Eric Vodicka, a veteran and junior political science major from Tarrant County Community College.

The transfer mentor position is changing to transfer student guide.

Transfer student leaders will have a peer-to-peer connection, helping new students to make the best out their experience at TCU. It provides another level of resources and support for them through the transfer students’ office.

Next academic year TCU will develop a nontraditional student focus in the Transfer Center to make sure they feel well connected and like they belong on campus.
