TCU bats carry Frogs to a sweep

TCU’s Evan Skoug celebrates with teammates in the dugout after scoring against West Virginia during the third inning of a college baseball game Saturday, March 19, 2016, in Fort Worth, Texas.

The first weekend of Big 12 Conference play came to a close with the Frogs sweeping West Virginia with a 14-2 victory on Sunday.

TCU won the game in just seven innings as the ten-run rule was in effect.

Designated hitter Luken Baker and third baseman Elliott Barzilli had big games. Baker finished the game going 3-4 with a home run, two doubles and five RBIs. Barzilli went 2-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

TCU trailed 2-0 in the first inning, but Baker quickly turned it around. With the bases loaded and no outs, Baker crushed a grand slam to left center, giving the Frogs a 4-2 lead. The grand slam was the first of Baker’s young career and the first for the Frogs since 2013.

After adding a run the next inning, Barzilli led off the third with his fifth home run of the season.

The Frogs scored in all but one inning. Six of the nine starters had a multi-hit game.

The duo of Baker and Barzilli gave the Mountaineers trouble throughout the entire series. In three games, they were a combined 11-21 with three home runs and 12 RBIs.

Barzilli’s batting average is now up to .438 for the season. He also has a team-high five home runs and is second on the team with 23 RBIs.

Rex Hill earned the win for the Frogs. Hill pitched five innings and allowed two runs on five hits.

The Frogs are now 16-3 on the season. They move to 3-0 in conference play.

West Virginia falls to 10-7 overall and 0-3 in the Big 12.

Next up for the Frogs is Abilene Christian University on Tuesday night in Fort Worth. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
