The battle over who would be TCU’s starting quarterback came to a close Thursday night.

After practice head football coach Gary Patterson announced that A&M transfer Kenny Hill would start for the Horned Frogs in their season opener against South Dakota state on Sept. 3.

Patterson said earlier this month that he was looking for someone who not only pushes his teammates to work hard on the field, but also to become a better person off the field.

Patterson said that when “Kenny Hill walks in here,” you can see the changes he has made since his time at A&M and that “he’s worked really hard.”

The offensive foundation will stay the same, TCU offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie said.

With Hill’s similar athleticism to former quarterback Trevone Boykin, fans can expect lots of shotguns, spread concepts with lots of no-huddle use and options for hill to run.

After sitting out a year due to NCAA transfer policies, this will be the first time Hill sees game action since starting for Texas A&M in the 2014 season.

During his time with the Aggies, Hill was 5-3 and threw for 2,649 yards with 23 touchdowns.

Patterson chose Hill for the position over sophomore Foster Sawyer. Last season, Sawyer played in four games, including a start at Oklahoma. During that game, he threw three interceptions and eventually was pulled.

Fans took to Twitter about the decision and their thoughts on the idea for Hill as a Hesiman trophy candidate.
