After playing–and winning–the first three games of the season on the road, the Horned Frogs get a home game Friday.
The team scored six goals in a shutout of Lamar on Sunday. The last time the Frogs scored six goals was Aug. 29, 2010, against Sam Houston State. The last 3-0 start was in 2009.
This weekend, they’ll be looking to hold off the University of Illinois, whose record is 2-2. The match begins at 7 p.m. Friday in Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
TCU’s senior forward Michelle Prokof and sophomore forward Faith Carter were key in the win over the Lamar Cardinals. Each netted two goals in that match. Prokof’s two goals marked the fifth multi-goal game of her career.
Prokof is a talented player and has put herself in situations to score, head coach Eric Bell said. “Getting multiple goals in a game isn’t easy to do.”
The Horned Frogs win against the Cardinals put the league on notice, Bell said.
“We’ve shown very well the last two weeks that we are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the league,” Bell said Sunday after the victory over Lamar.
Bell said his team will focus on each game
After their three away games, being back home this weekend, playing in front of friends, students, TCU community and family is like having “2,000 fans cheering behind you as opposed to cheering against you,” Prokof said.
“It gives us the desire to want to go 4-0,” she said.
It is welcoming to “come back home,” Bell said.
“It’s going to be nice to have the comfort of our traditions coming up for the month of September,” Bell said.
