New sorority recruits first pledge class

Phi Mu promotes their new chapter at the Founders Statue the week of August 26.

TCU’s newest sorority is looking for charter members.

Phi Mu, which began its separate three-week recruitment on Aug. 29, is accepting women from all years.

“We are looking for women who are already involved on campus, or looking for a unique way to become involved by joining a new organization, and helping us establish the chapter and set it up for continued success,” said April Roberts, the sorority’s director of extension.

The sorority participated in round one of formal recruitment last month, which they treated as an informational session to potential members. After speaking to all of the women in the first round, Phi Mu withdrew from the process.

Instead, Phi Mu began a three-week recruitment on Aug. 29. The sorority has had an informational tent set up near the Founders Statute for much of this week.

“We will be at campus tables, holding recruitment events, and having personal interviews with each potential new member going through our process,” Roberts said.

In order to be considered a member, each woman must sign up, attend a personal interview with a Phi Mu staff member, and attend at least one recruitment event.

“Being a charter member of Phi Mu is a once in a lifetime opportunity to start traditions and leave a legacy at TCU,” Roberts said.

The next Phi Mu events will be Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Brown-Lupton University Union Ballroom, and the last recruitment sessions will be held Sept. 13 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the BLUU Auditorium.

Phi Mu will celebrate its Bid Day on Sept. 15 in the King Family Commons.

TCU selected Phi Mu as the newest chapter on campus in fall of 2011. Phi Mu plans to participate alongside the other sororities for the entire formal recruitment process next fall.

Interested women can contact Roberts at [email protected] or receive updates by following Phi Mu on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
