Spooky story time at the Southwest Regional Library

The Southwest Regional Library offered spooky stories to kids during story time on Oct. 29 in celebration of Halloween.
Robin Marshall, a librarian at the Southwest Regional Library, read theBig Pumpkinby Erica Silverman and “The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anythingby Linda Williams.
Marshall also read “Little Halloween, a book where the children could solve rhyming riddles.

These are the three books that were read during story time at the Southwest Regional Library.

As Marshall read the story to the children, she would act out noises, make a variety of voices for each character and would incorporate the children into the story by  asking them questions.
The children and their families also danced to the “Tooty Ta” and “Hokey Pokey” songs.
After story time, the children had the option of coloring or making a puzzle.

Carolina Fontes, an attendee, said she found out about story time through the internet.
“I was trying to find activities for him [her child],” Fontes said. “We have been here since he was six months old. We used to come more often, but since he started school we just come once or twice a week.”
Katie Taylor, an attendee, said it is really important for parents to bring their children to story time.
“It teaches how to be around other kids, how to sit and listen and react to books,” Taylor said.
Marshall said the books they read Saturday are available for parents to check out at the library and that she is currently working on picking out the books for November.
“We are probably going to be doing a farm theme,” Marshall said.
Families will have one more opportunity to join in for spooky stories on Monday, Oct. 31. The story time schedule can be found on the Southwest Regional Library online calendar.
