TCU advances to the Big 12 Championship game after beating Baylor University, 3-2, in overtime on Friday night.

It seemed bleak for the Horned Frogs in the beginning after the Baylor Bears were able to find the back of the net twice before the end of the first half, even though TCU outshot them 6-3.

Head coach Eric Bell said he had faith in his players.

“I thought the second half was ours to be had,” Bell said. “They took advantage of it.”

Going into the second half, the Frogs were down 2-0. But, they did not shrink with the pressure mounting.

In the 72nd minute, TCU was granted a penalty kick because of a foul inside the box. Junior forward Allison Ganter capitalized on the penalty kick to get the Frogs on the scoreboard.

Less than two minutes after Ganter’s goal, sophomore forward Faith Carter tied the game at 2-2 with a header.

Eight minutes into overtime, senior forward Michelle Prokof placed a perfect pass for senior defender Meghan Murphy. Murphy scored on the pass for her second goal of the season, which put TCU on top 3-2.

Bell said his team responded to the adversity.

“They responded to the challenge that I gave them at the half to show some character and go out fighting,” Bell said.

TCU will face No.1 West Virginia at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
