Track and field sets 15 personal bests at the Horned Frogs Invitational

The Horned Frogs posted 15 personal bests as they hosted their second home meet of the season at the Lowdon Track and Field Complex on Saturday.

“We had a lot of seasonal and personal bests today,” said director of track and field Darryl Anderson. “We just had a great weekend all in all.”

Running Events

To open up the running events, the men’s 4×100-meter relay team of senior Raymond Bozmans, juniors Emeilo Ferguson and Jalen Miller, and sophomore Darrion Flowers logged a season-best time of 39.15. The team placed second to Florida, who currently holds the fastest time in the NCAA. This time moves TCU to the No. 7 time in the NCAA.

Flowers also produced a personal-best time of 10.23 in the 100-meter dash, winning his heat and placing second overall. Ferguson placed first with a time of 10.16. Ferguson also placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.94.

Junior Kevin McClanahan produced a career-best time in the 400-meter dash, winning with a time of 46.57. Sophomore Derrick Mokaleng placed fourth with a time of 46.71.

McClanahan, Mokaleng, Flowers and freshman Jostyn Andrews edged out a first place finish in the 4×400-meter relay, recording a season-best time of 3:06.00.

In the 1,500-meter race, sophomore Patrick LaCour placed fourth with a time of 4:04.68 and sophomore Dylan Brokmeyer placed sixth with a time of 4:12.73.

In the 5,000-kilometer race, senior Ryan Spetnagel placed second with a time of 16:10.00, senior Shane Murray placed fourth with a time of 16:41.52 and junior Aaron Reichner placed fifth with a time of 17:15.86.

On the women’s side, sophomore Kayla Heard and junior Tiffany Terry had a 3-4 finish in the 400-meter dash with times of 54.53 and 55.43.

Junior Briona Oliver set a personal best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.69, placing sixth and moving her to No. 5 on TCU’s all-time list. Oliver also produced another personal best in the long jump with a distance of 20 feet 7.75 inches (6.29 meters).

In the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Lexi Aitken placed fifth with a personal best time of 13.65. Aitken then went on to place fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.12.

Aitken, senior Judy Emeodi, Heard and Terry posted a season-best time of 3:37.41 in the 4×400-meter dash, placing second.

Emeodi also posted a personal best in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.81.

Sophomore Brenley Goertzen won the 1,500-meter race, recording a time of 4:29.98. Sophomore Nicole Hicks placed third with a time of 4:41.70, junior Anna Cozart placed fourth with a time of 4:44.59 and freshman Kirsten Johnston placed fifth with a time of 4:45.56.

In the 5,000-kilometer race, Freshman Molly Hamel placed second with a time of 18:54.41 in the 5,000-kilometer race, and sophomore Erin Barth placed third with a time of 13:04.83 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

“When you line up and you have conference foe, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, a Pac-12 school in Arizona and the No. 2 team in the country in Florida, I thought we stood up and competed hard in our facility,” said Anderson.

Field Events

The No. 7 men’s hammer throw team lived up to their standing by setting and matching personal bests this weekend.

Sophomore Fellan McGuigan matched his school record and personal best with a distance of 211 feet 6 inches (64.47 meters). Freshman Ryan Camp set a personal best of 194 feet 7 inches (59.31 meters) with a fourth place finish. Sophomore Justin Sanchez set a personal best of 190 feet 7 inches (58.09 meters) with a fifth place finish. Freshman Isaiah Rogers set a personal best of 181 feet 3 inches (55.24 meters) with a sixth place finish.

Camp also placed sixth in the men’s discus with a distance of 155 feet 8 inches (47.45 meters).

In the pole vault, freshman Adam McAdoo placed fourth, recording a height of 15 feet 1.50 inches (4.61 meters).

For the women’s hammer throw team, senior Paola Miranda placed first, recording a season-best mark of 191 feet 7 inches (58.40 meters).

Freshman Emily Wright recorded her first outdoor collegiate meet mark in the long jump with a distance of 20 feet 2.50 inches (6.16 meters). She placed third and jumped to the No. 7 spot in program history.

Freshman Kendahl Shue placed fifth in the pole vault with a height of 12 feet 3.50 inches (3.75 meters), and senior Makaila Flannigan placed second in the women’s javelin throw with a distance of 80 feet 10 inches (24.64 meters).
