The TCU Rifle team began the 2017 season in record-setting fashion this past weekend.

At the Memphis Tiger Invitational on Saturday, the Horned Frogs defeated the field of nine teams handily, scoring almost 100 more points than Navy, who finished in second. The teams aggregate score of 4,728 points tied a school record.

Senior Mindy Miles posted a personal-best aggregate score of 1189 (out of 1200) on Saturday, firing a 599 in Air Rifle and a 590 in Smallbore. Elizabeth Marsh followed Miles with an 1181 aggregate score, including a 589 in Smallbore that set the NCAA record for the highest score ever fired by a freshman in their first collegiate match.

In total, the Horned Frogs had the top five aggregate scores of the invitational, and tied the second highest marks in school history in both Air Rifle and Smallbore aggregate scores.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season,” head coach Karen Monez said. “With the record-setting scores fired this weekend, this team is going to continue to raise the bar.”

Continuing their success on Sunday at the Ole Miss Invite, TCU defeated a field of 12 other teams, posting an aggregate score of 4,726 that tied for the third-best mark in program history.

Sophomore Casey Lutz set a personal best in the Air Rifle with a score of 596 while junior Rachel Garner, senior Ariana Grabowski, and sophomore Rachel Kimbell all tied their personal bests. These performances gave the team an Air Rifle aggregate score of 2,381, besting the mark set the day before for the second highest in school history.

Mindy Miles continued her impressive weekend by posting an aggregate score of 1,193, which broke her own personal record set on Saturday and is the second highest score in TCU history.

The Horned Frogs will head to The Citadel Saturday where they will take place in an invitational with two other schools.
