The Horned Frogs began their 2017 indoor track and field campaign at the Reveille Invitational in College Station, TX Saturday, Dec. 9. Sophomore Isaiah Rogers broke the men’s weight throw record.

Running Events

“The 60 guys competed well, finishing second and third,” track and field head coach Darryl Anderson said. “The mile relay ran well also, 3:07 is good for them at this point.”

The men’s 4×400-meter relay team of sophomore Jostyn Andrews, senior Kevin McClanahan, junior Darrion Flowers and senior Derrick Mokaleng placed third with a time of 3.07.87, one second off of the team’s previous best mark.

Senior Emeilo Ferguson and senior Jalen Miller finished second and third in the 60-meter dash with marks of 6.77 and 6.79. In the 200-meter dash, Ferguson and Miller finished in sixth and eighth place behind times of 21.69 and 21.75.

On the women’s side, freshman Hope Glenn placed eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.62.

Junior Lexi Aiken placed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles recording a time of 8.99.

In the women’s 1000-meter race, freshman Renee Payne placed seventh with a time of 3:04.85.

Field Events

“It was a good start to the season, especially in the weight throw,” Anderson said. “The weight throw is an event we really want to do well in at the conference level and our guys are set up to do that.”

Sophomore Isaiah Rogers recorded a new school record in the men’s weight throw, behind a mark of 63 feet 3.5 inches (19.29m). The previous record was recorded by Cameron Tabor in 2012, with a throw of 62 feet 1 inch.

Senior Justin Sanchez and sophomore Ryan Camp also recorded marks over 60 feet in the men’s weight throw. Sanchez’s throw of 62 feet 4 inches (19.00m) ranks second in TCU indoor history behind Rogers. Camp recorded a throw of 61 feet 11.5 inches (18.88m).

Also in the men’s weight throw, junior Fellan McGuigan placed sixth with a throw of 52 feet 5 inches (15.98m).

“On the women’s side, I thought Leilyn competed well in the shot,” Anderson said. “All in all, it was good to come here, get the competitive juices flowing and see our athletes in a competitive environment before sending them off on Christmas break.”

In the women’s shot put, freshman Leilyn Miles placed second behind a throw of 46 feet 10 inches (14.27m).

On the men’s side, Rogers finished in third place with a distance of 57 feet 2 inches (17.44m).

Sophomore Kendahl Shue placed fourth in the women’s pole vault with a height of 10 feet 10 inches (3.32m). On the men’s side, freshman Fernando Martinez and sophomore Adam McAdoo placed fifth and sixth with max heights of 14 feet 10 inches (4.52m).

Senior Scotty Newton competed in the men’s long jump securing third place with a distance of 22 feet 9 inches (6.94m).
