The Horned Frogs suffered a fourth-quarter collapse against the Oklahoma Sooners Thursday evening, yielding 28 points to OU in the final frame to lose by 13, 84-71.

The Horned Frogs were ahead by three points entering the fourth and the program’s first win in Norman seemed within reach. The Sooners stepped on the gas pedal to begin the quarter with a 12-0 run and never looked back.

Oklahoma’s suffocating defense prevented a single Horned Frog point in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter. From that point forward, Oklahoma maintained a six-point advantage at the minimum. The Sooners converted on 12-16 shooting in the fourth quarter while allowing a measly 4-17 from the Horned Frogs.

“I think we did a lot of good things in the first three quarters,” head coach Raegan Pebley said. “But, sometimes when we have quarters like the third where we’re able to score a lot, we forget that it’s defense that wins these games, it’s not the offense. We start getting greedy and just want to play offense, and you’ve got to be locked in and committed on that defensive end.”

Of the Horned Frogs 27 points in their efficient third quarter, two came in miraculous fashion. Junior forward Amy Okonkwo rebounded Kianna Ray’s blocked attempt and converted before the buzzer sounded.

Adeola Akomolafe recorded her first career three-point shot as time expired before halftime. Akomolafe also recorded a season-high seven rebounds.

Okonkwo led the Frogs with 21 points on the night, her seventh straight outing with at least 15 points. Toree Thompson added 17 points, and Jordan Moore played efficiently in the paint, scoring 12 points, eight rebounds, and a career-high four assists.

Up next for the Frogs are the Texas Tech Red Raiders, winless in Big 12 play. The Horned Frogs will welcome Texas Tech to Schollmaier Arena Sunday afternoon with tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
