TCU Women’s Basketball won its first Big 12 conference game of the season, defeating Texas Tech 93-72.
The Horned Frogs switched up their starting lineup after losing three consecutive Big 12 games, with freshman Lauren Heard and senior Sydney Coleman each making their first career starts in the victory. Coleman and Heard combined for 20 points, including 13 of the teams 27 first quarter points.
The team never trailed after forcing 10 turnovers and outscoring the Red Raiders 27-16 in the first quarter.
They shot a season-high 60.3 percent from the field, also a program record in Big 12 play. Their 93 points and 27 assists were also program records during conference play.
Six Horned Frogs scored in double figures with Jordan Moore’s 18 points leading the way. Junior Amy Okonkwo continued her offensive hot streak with 17 points, her eighth straight game scoring above 15 points.
On the defensive side, the team had 12 steals and 22 forced turnovers, scoring 23 points off of those turnovers.
“We had a real strong focus on our defense;” TCU head coach Raegan Pebley said. “We didn’t even talk about our offense in the last two days.”
The team returns to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 10th against the eighth-ranked Texas Longhorns at Schollmaier Arena. Tip off is at 8 p.m.
