TCU Women’s basketball won their fourth straight conference game when they defeated Kansas 76-66 on Saturday.
The Horned Frogs overcame a slow start in the first quarter and controlled the rest of a low-scoring, defensive-minded game against the Jayhawks. TCU led for 31 of the game’s 40 minutes.
Kansas shot a meager 44 percent from the field and gave up 17 turnovers to a TCU team whose focus on defense has been key in their four-game win streak.
“We’ve been more defensive minded really over the last two weeks and its producing,” TCU head coach Raegan Pebley said. “The team is really embracing how hard it is to defend and how hard you need to defend in this conference game in and game out.
Along with the defensive edge, the Horned Frogs bench produced 47 of the teams 76 points, led by Amy Okonkwo’s 24 points in 23 minutes.
Sophomore guard Amber Ramirez also scored in double digits off of the bench, with 14 points in 22 minutes.
Pebley accredited the effectiveness of Ramirez and Okonkwo off the bench to their commitment to the team’s mission.
“It’s about the team’s mission more than their individual role,” Pebley said. “Whether you start or you don’t start you are a member of the team and it’s about what you do with the minutes you get.”

Junior forward Jordan Moore’s presence in the post on both sides of the floor was also a major factor in the Horned Frogs victory.
Pebley praised Moore’s maturity as a player and her development on the offensive end. She finished with 19 points and 6 rebounds.
The Horned Frogs have now won four straight games for the first time in their four seasons as members of the Big 12 conference. Two of those victories were over ranked opponents in Texas and West Virginia.
“It’s an accumulation of a lot of work,” Pebley said of the team’s recent success.
The Horned Frogs are now fourth in the conference standings with games against Kansas State (7th in the conference), Oklahoma (5th), and Iowa State (8th) upcoming.
The matchup against Kansas State will be in Manhattan, Kansas Wednesday with tipoff set for 7:00 p.m.
