No. 22 TCU women’s basketball dominated Iowa State in Hilton Coliseum Tuesday night behind a career-best 25 points from junior forward Jordan Moore to win their seventh consecutive game, 75-52. The seven-game win streak is TCU’s first since 2011.
Moore’s outing was her best in a Big 12 game. She converted on 8-14 field goals and was a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line while also recording six rebounds on the night. TCU sophomore guard Amber Ramirez added 12 points and a team-high three assists. Senior guard Toree Thompson returned to action after missing the last two games and scored eight points.
The Horned Frogs played exceptional defense against the Cyclones, forcing 36 percent shooting and a 6-24 three-point field goal percentage.
“I think our extended pressure was beneficial to us defensively and took them out of some operating areas offensively,” TCU head coach Raegan Pebley said. “I think that was something we really felt like we needed to do because they execute so well and shoot the ball so well.”
TCU’s defense helped separate the two squads during the second quarter. The Horned Frogs held Iowa State scoreless during the final four minutes of the second quarter and extended their lead to 14 points. Moore then scored the first seven points of either team in the third quarter, pushing TCU’s lead to 21 points.
TCU held the Cyclones to 11 points and 3-13 shooting in the third quarter and led by as many as 26 points.
Iowa State came out of the gates in the fourth quarter on fire, opening on a 10-0 run to cut their deficit to 15 points. The Horned Frogs kept their composure and kept the Cyclones scoreless for over seven minutes to seal the deal.
TCU’s presence on the boards was a major factor in the victory, as well. The Frogs out-rebounded Iowa State 41-24 with 13 offensive rebounds, good for 18 second-chance points to Iowa State’s four.
At 16-5, the Horned Frogs have their best record through 21 games since 2010, the last season TCU women’s basketball played in the NCAA Tournament.
The Horned Frogs will travel to Austin for their next contest. Tipoff against the No. 8 Texas Longhorns is set for noon for the first meeting between the two squads since TCU’s shocking upset over then-No. 7 Texas.
