WATCH: Democratic candidate for state senate talks gun control, immigration

Step into the 214,000 square-foot warehouse and gape at the rows and rows of guitars.Classical, acoustic, electric, vintage – there more types than the average music lover could ever name. Hear about 30 different guitar melodies simultaneously; all are live. Some come from professional guitarists playing on any of the five stages dispersed throughout the hall, but most are attendees of the world’s largest guitar festival experimenting on their potentially new guitars at one of the 800 exhibitors’ booths.

For those election junkies who just can’t wait until the 2018 midterm elections: you don’t have to!

Early voting for the Texas State Senate District 10 primary race is already underway and one of the Democratic candidates, Allison Campolo stopped by the PolitiFrog newsroom to talk about her campaign and the issues that define it.

Campolo said she decided to run this election after nearly 16 years of working on other people’s campaigns and because she said she doesn’t belive the current state senator for District 10, Republican Konni Burton, represents the people of the district.

“Since she’s up for election this year it’s time to jump in,” Campolo said. “It’s time to put my name on the ballot.”

She said three of her main goals are to extend public healthcare, public transportaion and public education while cutting state funding for a border wall, which she added the federal government has already allocated money for.

“I thought that was a really innapproriate use of money,” Campolo said. “We absoluelty could have used that extra money in our public education budget.”

Campolo is facing off against fellow Democrat Beverly Powell in the primary, which is March 6, and if succesful, is  hoping to unseat Burton in the general election in November.

To hear more from Campolo about her thoughts on gun control, voter turnout and her plans for Texas, watch the extended interview below.
