TCU women’s basketball team fell to No. 3 Baylor 85-53 in their final home game of the season Saturday.
The loss was the team’s 10th of the season, bringing their record to 18-10 and 9-8 in Big 12 play.
The game was headlined by the Horned Frogs inability to score throughout, as they posted a season-low 53 points on a 29.6 field goal percentage. TCU began the game by missing their first 10 shots, allowing Baylor to jump out to a 13-0 lead that they would never relinquish.
“We had good shots that just didn’t fall to start the game,” TCU head coach Raegan Pebley said.
The Horned Frogs shooting woes continued throughout the game, as they had five-minute stretches in both the third and fourth quarter where they failed to score. The team’s 16 made field goal attempts was their lowest this season.
“We just didn’t convert,” Pebley said. “Seven assists on only 16 made field goals isn’t going to be quite enough.”
The seven assists tied their season low.
Baylor’s season scoring margin of +31.1 is the second highest mark in the nation, and they proved it in their 32-point defeat of the Horned Frogs.
They had all five starters score in double figures, led by senior guard Kristy Wallace who had 19 points. Kalani Brown finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
“Baylor’s a team that forces you to have to play with little room for error,” Pebley said.
They defeated the Horned Frogs by 20 in their first meeting Feb. 10.
The game also marked the final home game for TCU’s two seniors, Toree Thompson and Sydney Coleman.
“These two women are a lot of what our culture is about,” Pebley said. “Two women that
have a growth mindset, they have so much grit and determination.”
TCU’s chances of making their first NCAA tournament since 2010 are slimmer than ever, as the loss likely slots them for the NIT.
The Horned Frogs will look to end their season on a high note when they travel to take on Oklahoma State Monday. They lost their first meeting to the Cowgirls 71-54. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
