Postseason bound: Women’s basketball selected to play in WNIT

TCU women’s basketball was selected Monday night to play in the 2018 Women’s Postseason NIT. The Horned Frogs will host Lamar at Schollmaier Arena Thursday in the tournament’s first round.

The Postseason WNIT is a 64-team, single-elimination tournament with all games hosted by participating schools. The bracket is comprised of 32 automatic berths and 32 at-large berths.

TCU is one of three Big 12 teams in the WNIT along with West Virginia and Kansas State.The Horned Frogs earned the league’s automatic berth by being the highest finishing team in the regular-season standings that was not selected into the NCAA Championships.

The Horned Frogs will enter the tournament with 19 wins, their most since joining the Big 12. The women also recorded their most Big 12 wins in a season with nine, played in their first conference tournament semifinal and earned their first top-25 ranking since 2010.

Lamar finished the season with a 22-7 record, won the Southland Conference regular season championship and recorded a 17-1 conference record.

Thursday’s matchup with Lamar will tip-off at 6:30 p.m.. The complete bracket can be viewed here.

The winning team will play the winner of Louisiana Tech and Missouri State. The date and location are yet to be determined.
