TCU baseball won their second Big 12 Conference series of the season after beating the Kansas Jayhawks twice this weekend.

The Horned Frogs won 4-2 Friday and 13-3 Saturday. Sunday’s game was canceled when the temperature at game time was below freezing. It was the ninth time this season a TCU baseball game has been canceled or postponed due to weather.

The two wins pushed the team above .500 in conference play (6-5) and pulled them out of a Big 12 slump– prior to this weekend, they had lost five of the last six conference games since sweeping Kansas State in March.

Sophomore Nick Lodolo continued his dominance on the mound to open the series Friday, pitching six innings and allowing just two hits.

The team scored two runs in the first inning on a Luken Baker sacrifice groundout and a passed ball, giving Lodolo all the insurance he would need.

Kansas would capitalize on a walk in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to one, but a Conner Shepherd RBI single pushed the lead back to two in the third. A.J. Balta added an RBI groundout of his own in the top of the eighth inning and the Horned Frogs held on to win 4-2.

TCU moved to 12-0 on the season when they hold their opponents to two or fewer runs.

If Friday was about the pitching, Saturday was all about the bats. Baker hit two home runs and racked up 6 RBIs as the Horned Frogs cruised to a 13-3 win.

The junior had a solo blast in the first inning and a grand slam in the eighth for his first career multi-home run game.

Balta added two doubles and two RBIs and the team’s two first-year infielders, Coby Boulware and Adam Oviedo, combined for five hits.

Starting pitcher Sean Wymer threw eight innings and allowed just two runs on four hits. He also struck out six in his second win of the season.

The win was TCU’s fourth straight, a streak they look to continue when they host Abilene Christian Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
