After advancing to the NCEA National Championship semifinals for the third straight season, No. 6 Horned Frogs equestrian fell to No. 2 Auburn 12-4 in Waco Thursday night.
The last time TCU faced Auburn was for the title at the 2016 NCEA National Championship where Auburn won 8-7.
The Frogs started their postseason success when they beat No. 3 Oklahoma State 10-6 in the quarterfinals Thursday morning. The team was the only lower-seeded team to win in the quarterfinals. The Frogs avenged their regular season losses with a very strong showing in Hunt Seat, outscoring Oklahoma State 6-2. First-year Elizabeth McKim earned the match-clinching point with her 157-point ride in Equitation Over Fences.
The Frogs fell behind 6-2 against Auburn after Equitation Over Fences and Horsemanship. Sophomores Cydney Benes and Jamie Cook earned the Frogs lone points in Horsemanship.
The Auburn sealed its win after a 3-1 win in Reining. First-year Adrianna Adams earned her point for the Frogs with her 137.5 ride. Senior Jayme Omand earned the only point for the Frogs with her 150-point ride in Equitation on the Flat.
Although the Frogs do not have a chance at the team national title, TCU will continue to compete for a national title in two event quarterfinals. The team will take on No. 1 Georgia in Fences and No. 3 Oklahoma State in Horsemanship Friday.
