The TCU men and women’s cross county teams began their 2018 season at the Baylor Twilight Invitational Friday night.
The women’s team ended their night with three top 10 runners and placed third overall as a team. Sophomore Evelyn Mandel lead the Frogs, coming in fourth overall with a 13:52.2 time. Finishing just behind her was Junior Lindsay Tomaini, who crossed the finish line in sixth place at 13:58.4. Senior Kristian Johnston closed out the top 10 finishing at 14:22.5.
Outside of the top 10, Senior Elizabeth Baker placed 12th at 14:26.9 and Freshman Isabella Aguiar finishing in the top 20 in her collegiate debut at 18th.
“We’re two weeks into training, and they have, by far, exceeded my expectations,” head coach Jennifer Fazioli said. “They ran well together, they packed together, I was just very pleased with where they are.”
The men’s team finished fourth overall and had two runners place in the top 15. First-year Sean Bryne ended his night with an 11th place ending at 18:50.0 and behind him was fellow first-year Lakelin Conrad who came in 13th.
“I think the guys showed me some good things,” Fazioli said. “I was really impressed with Sean (Bryne) and Lakelin (Conrad) did extremely well and moved up the entire way.”
The Horned Frogs will have a few weeks off before returning to action at the Texas A&M Invitational. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, September 22.
